Good music is a universal language that connects people from various backgrounds. It has grown to become a way that people express themselves and bond with different people all around the world through their lyrics, rhythm and sound.Abunaw Mary Tabot Tabi, better known as Eemel, is a multi-talented Cameroonian artist renowned for her chart-toppers like Change, andLost Feelings. Born on 26th February 2003, Eemel is now 21 years old as of 2024 She was born and raised in Mamfe, Manyu Division, to a music-loving Christian family but later moved to Buea, Cameroon. She’s proudly Cameroon by nationality and follows the Christian faith.

Eemel completed her primary and secondary education in Mamfe, Manyu Division and pursued a degree in international relations and political science at University of Buea, South West Region. Due to her father’s business, her family relocated frequently during her high school years, which made it challenging for her to form lasting friendships. Eemel’s father, Mr. Abunaw Emmanuels from Mamfe, Cameroon and worked as a Barrister and businessman, while her mother, Mrs. ,Nzalie Judith Abunaw from Nguti Subdivision. She a dedicated homemaker. She grew up alongside four siblings. Eemel ventured into the world of music in August 2023. In 2024, Eemel gained confidence after working carefully with friendly producers like DME BEATs. After a close observation and proper training she decided to put pen to paper as an artist under G2G entertainment.

EARLY LIFE

Starting in 2024, Eemel began recording at G2G Entertainment in Buea under the guidance of producers DME Beats and others, rapidly making her mark in the music industry. Her self-titled debut extended play,”Change, ” dropped on March 22, 2024, through G2G Ent. The hit single “Change” reached number 17 on the Cameroon Top Triller 237 hits and spent two weeks at number four on Audiomark and Boomplay. This success paved the way for her debut full-length jam, “Lost Feelings, ” released in April 2024, primarily this lead single even topped the Top 50 chart, marking a historic achievement as the first solo track by Eemel to reach this milestone. Eemel is situated at the intersection of the genre’s evolution in sound and representation. Women, whether widely acknowledged or not, have majorly contributed to the lasting power of Afrobeats and the popularity of new iterations in the genre and culture. And right now, a new generation of young women stand among them, honoring and reinventing the music, the fashion, the business, and everything in between. It’s the next era for a new genre, and Eemel is at the helm — ready for whatever phase comes next.
